WHAT THE HELL!

On Christmas Eve my family and I were driving to my Uncle's house for our annual Christmas eve get together. On the way out, a freeway sign was flashing that as of January 1st 2009 motorist are no longer able to text while driving. At first we thought to ourselves...are you kidding? How can someone text and drive and not run off the road. Didn't they just pass a law saying you can't talk on your cell phone while driving without one of those blue tooth's! (Which by the way I think the phone company's should give out for free)! I would think that messing around with your phone while driving is just a little to unsafe, plus I have a hard enough time typing on a keyboard at my desk, let alone trying to type onto a little cell phone pad that the letters are smaller then my two year old's finger nails.
Sure enough...while my husband and I were driving to his parents house the other day I look over and there in this car next to ours was a lady texting while driving!!

WHAT THE HELL!

So just to let anyone that likes to text while driving (your crazy) that as of January 1st you can get a ticket. I found this in our Westways magazine:
SB 28 prohibits drivers from test messaging or e-mailing while driving. Fines for violating this law are at least $76 (after penalties) for the first offense and about $190 for subsequent offenses, depending on the county in which the violation occurred.

I think they should also add putting on mascara and lipstick! How about picking your nose while driving...that fine should start out at about $250 because that is really gross! :)

Be safe and everyone have a wonderful New Year! Talk to you again in 2009!!

LA ZOO

One of the best places to take kids is the zoo, they get to run around look at animals and in about 3 hours are totally ready for a nap. On Monday David, Melissa, and I decided to take Megan and Katelyn to the Los Angeles Zoo. When I asked Kate what animal she wanted to see first, her answer was the zebras. We mostly just got to see the zebras butts because they were more interested in eating then entertaining two 2 year old's.

The giraffes were next on our must see list!

I think these animals make David feel short! :)

One of the most beautiful animals we got to see was the tigers...and we were in luck because a few of them decided to walk around and show themselves off.
I asked Megan if she liked the tigers...and the only thing she said to me was "Pooh-pooh," David and I took one look at each other and started to laugh. You see, one of Megan's favorite books is Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans and a line in the book is as follows. To the tiger in the zoo Madeline just said, "Pooh-pooh,"

I love it when my very smart two year old quotes lines out of books! Is Shakespeare next? just joking!!
All in all we had a really nice day strolling through the zoo and the weather was perfect!

Christmas gift caution

This story starts oh let's see...hmm oh yeah last Christmas morning...2007. My Mom and Dad decided to get Oma, my Mom's Mom a new chandelier as a Christmas present. About half way through the morning of tearing open wonderful gifts, dealing with two 1 year old's, a 4 year old, a 9 year old, a 14 year old and two 17 year old's, my parents presented the chandelier to Oma.

Now take note everyone...because of all the commotion of the kids, presents, hot coffee and what not, the chandelier was never taken out of the box. They figured why take it out when it was so nicely packed. They would just have to repack it and take it over to grandma's house and at the time it just seemed like too much work! Plus in a few days it would be hung and Oma could then really see it!

Well, basically for the whole of 2008 no one had time to hang said chandelier and so it sat in it's nicely packed box out in Oma's garage. So sad :(

So this past Saturday morning David and I decided to help out my parents and hang Oma's chandelier. We figured waiting till after another Christmas had passed to finally hang the chandelier was just pushing it to far. Plus we have a sneakie suspicion that Oma was holding it over my parents head that her last Christmas gift was sitting in the garage...the only gift I would want sitting in the garage would be a new sports car! (OK I'm dreaming...but it sounded good)! Anyone? Anyone? Bueller??

OK I digress...David and I got over to Oma's house about 3pm thinking that it would take about an hour to put the chandelier together and another half hour to hang. It didn't happen...David started to unpack it and found that a bunch of parts were missing. Namely the chain, canopy, mounting strap, I'm sure there was more missing but by then we knew we had a big problem on our hands. My parents showed up and were promptly informed of the situation, the words crap and oh shit were thrown around the room, each looked at one another they couldn't believe it. Oma just sat there and smiled...laughed a little also!

It was finally decided that the lamp would be taken back to the store, in the hopes that A: they could get the missing parts, B: a new chandelier, C: store credit, D: make the manager believe that the lamp had been sitting in a garage for a year and that no one had messed with it. As luck would have it, they did still have the chandelier and it had not been discontinued. Seriously, what were the odds? The only problem was that it would take a week to order or they could have the floor model...they took the floor model. So after 11 months, 26 days and 18 hours Oma's chandelier was finally hung!

So if your giving a gift to someone that you truly love, make sure you have the time to open it up and make sure all the parts are there. Oh yeah and hold onto that receipt! Good job Dad!!!

It didn't last long...but she was having fun!

Disney Christmas

Yesterday evening started out with good intentions...David and I decided to take the girls to Disneyland and find Santa. It worked out well last year when we took them to the mall and they sat on his lap, so why not at Disneyland!
Megan was not happy! :(
I can just here her little brain saying what's with the fat guy in the red suit! I'm not sitting on his lap!!

Even telling Megan that Tinkerbell was behind Daddy didn't help...well, that and Katelyn with her finger up her nose!

The last picture came out OK, but Santa had to hold Kate's hands in the hope that she wouldn't go mining for boogers again, and Meg just looks defeated. Oh well there's always next year!

We did have a fun evening and the park looked beautiful!!

Christmas Kate

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year and is defiantly made for children. I love there faces when they come into the room and see all the presents wrapped and placed under the tree. Just in the last few months Megan and Katelyn have really figured out how to rip open a gift. One is slow and methodical and the other one just tares into it. I'm sure you know which one does what!
The many looks of Katelyn's Christmas smiles...HO, HO, HO Merry Christmas!

Love & Support

The people in your life that love and support you!

I am a very lucky person because I have a very tight group of people around me that no matter what are always there for me.

First my husband David...who is the most terrific husband a girl can have. Thank you for all that you did for me this past weekend David! From helping with the house, to the girls and for just being there. I love you always!

To my brother-in-law Travis...whom without I would have probably lost my mind, along with all my pictures in my computer! Thanks for fixing something I have no clue on how to fix.

To my sister Lesley...your a tough cookie on the outside my girl, but inside your all love and generosity. Thank you for sharing and I just love my necklace and will always think of you when I wear it.

For my Mom and Dad...who are the most generous and loving parents a person can have. Thank you Dad for watching the girls even when they give you the stomach flu! :) Mom thank you for always being there anytime I need you and supporting me in all I do.

To my oldest and best friend...Andie! What can you say when there is 31 years and counting of friendship!! I am very lucky to have you in my life. It's funny, who knew that at age 10 the person your hanging out with on the playground is going to be such a large influence in your life for years to come.

Flashback Friday!

I saw Flashback Friday on my sister's blog and thought to myself...fun idea!
So here I am at age 4, so what like 1971...Princess Leia eat your heart out. As you can see I was ahead of the fashion curve when it came to hairdo's. Princess Leia may have made this look hot in 1977 when Star Wars came out but, now you now where her hair idea came from!
Things that make you go hm mm!! Happy Friday everyone

Target and Costco are Evil!

Is it me or is it just the fact that every time I walk into Target I find stuff I didn't even know I needed! Costco is like that also...what the heck!
I must have a low tolerance for finding stuff and lets face it it's just stuff. Yeah it may make your life a little easier but do we really need all of it? I guess my answer has to be yes, because I keep buying it. Though it's not even stuff that's making your life easier...in the long run it's going to be making the garage look a lot fuller because that's where I'm going to have to store it once, 1. I'm tired of it or 2. the holiday season is over and it is no longer needed inside the house. So you store it for 11 months and 1 week just to bring it out for 3 weeks at the end of the year. Yup, makes perfect sense to me!
Then once the garage is full you and your other half decide to have a garage sell! This is a wonderful idea you think to yourselves. We will clean the garage out have enough room to walk around and maybe fit the cars back in. No, no, no...all this does is give you the opportunity to go back to Target and/or Costco and buy more stuff, because let's face it, you just can't live with out it! :)

Husband's and dog's!

If you don't have one...you should get one!
Your probably wondering what I am referring too...hang in there!
I did start out with just a dog, the thing about just having a dog is that they never complain if dinner is late. OK, they may give you one of those doggy looks but no actual words come out of their little mouths. Dog's also don't ask for too much of your time, a walk a day...play with a ball for what 10 minutes, nice that works! Rub there tummy's with your foot, while you watch TV? Sure why not, it's all good.
Husbands on the other hand...a different story! They do complain if dinner is late, words come out of there mouths, they do ask for a lot of your time, and most of the time there not to into playing ball. Well, some forms of ball but that's a whole different posting!! :) Yes let your mind go there!!!!

OK, I'm just being funny...my husband gave me a hard time last night after I told him I started a blog page. He read it, noted that I had misspelled Tenor Sax (sorry Melissa) and that I really didn't say anything about him and that I would probably talk about the dog before saying anything about him. So now you have the story! Gotcha honey!! I love you, you know that!!!!

So now I'm going to talk about David. Is he the love of my life? You betcha! Is he great with kids? Oh my god, the best! Does he work hard and bring home the bacon? Don't you know it! I love this guy, I am so lucky to have found him...trust me I had to kiss a lot of frogs before he came into my life. I'm sure your probably thinking to yourselves good grief Laurie give me a break! I know, I know...but he is a good guy. I met David in November of 2001, on a blind date arranged by my sister Lesley and her girlfriend. We hit if off immediately, had a great evening and when he brought me home went to give me a kiss and ended up kissing my hair and ear, because I was trying to open the car door when all this went down. Isn't the kissing supposed to be by the front door? :)
I have to go off into another story for just a minute...so bear with me, I do that a lot!
David and I had been dating for maybe a year, year and a half and we went to dinner. I'm not good with spicy food, or even the hint of spice in my food. My nose starts to run at the drop of a hat...sexy! Yeah I know, anyway here we are at this restaurant and I can feel my nose you know starting to fill up. Oh lord, so as casually as possible I take my napkin and dab my nose, then I do it again...and again...and again. There I think to myself no worries...finally David leans forward, Oh I think how romantic he's going to kiss me across the table! NOT!!!! Honey he says you have a booger on the top of your nose!
I have many more stories but will have to bore you at another time. My girls are starting to get restless. Needless to say I've written a little something about me and my hubby. I wanted to write about David's love of mountain biking and running but am running out of time myself so I will save it for another day.

New at this!

A few months ago my best friend suggested that I start a blog. Yeah, yeah I said like I have time for this! She said it would be great...family and friends could see pictures of my girls and see how life was going over at the Robinson house. Then about a week or two ago my sister started her blog! WOW...now I'm in trouble. This girl is brilliant when it comes to putting words to paper, funny, entertaining and self deprecating and always, always says what she's thinking. I'm screwed! :) But I say this with love!
Anyway, here goes...
I have 4 children, Melissa(18) is my oldest and is now attending UC Berkeley. This girl is wicked smart and at this point studying Physics. I'd love to take credit for her brains but she's my step-daughter and thus saved from my more or I should say less then stellar brain power! She also plays in the UC marching band, so if you love to watch college football please cheer a little harder when the band is on the field. Tenner Sacks section to be exact!
My second child is Joshua(15) he is my step-son and this kid is also supper smart and has a wicked sense of humor. Though at this point it's getting him in a bit of trouble at home and at school.
My last two are my twin girls, Megan and Katelyn both 2 years old. What can I say about these two, but that I love them with all my heart. Please don't get me wrong I love my two oldest kids but these two are basically why I was put on this earth. Megan the oldest by 2 minutes is the organizer of the two. She wants her toys lined up and facing forward, if she gets a new diaper then her sister needs one also. A few months ago before they turned two both were playing in the family room, Kate had a dirty diaper so David took her upstairs to change it. This left Meg alone with me in the kitchen trying to make dinner. Not liking the fact that Kate got to go with Daddy she made it known to me that she was not pleased. Trying to placate her I offered her a cookie but with the strict instructions to eat it fast and not tell her sister that she got a treat. All of this was readily agreed to and the cookie was given and eaten. Needless to say the minute Kate got back the cat was out of the bag. Megan, not wanting her sister to miss out on anything that she got promptly and is precise twin language (something that no Mother/Father or any other family member can figure out) told her sister that she had gotten said cookie and that she should ask Mom for one also. I know all of this was going down because of the wild hand gestures to the mouth and pantry door made by Meg and then Kate turning to me with a shocked look on her face and the scream that then emanated from her mouth! She got a cookie also...
Speaking of Katelyn...the youngest and thus the baby, baby of the family is a mommy's girl. From the day she was born I knew this and I love it! Me first and then everyone else second...I'm sure over the years this will change but for right now I wouldn't have it any other way. Kate is a little more out going then Meg, she'll say hi or go give a family member a hug first before Megan. Kate doesn't care if her toys are lined up and takes great joy in knocking them down once Meg has lined them up. She also loves to play hide and go seek with her Daddy...something that Meg's not to happy doing. Both will go count but, only Kate will come out to find Daddy, while Meg stays put until Daddy has been found. I don't blame her I'm kind of a chicken as is Melissa when it comes to people jumping out at you from dark corners.
Well, this is the start of my blogging! I hope I did OK for my first time.
